Legal translation

Legal translations: legally sound, certified and confidential

Contracts, judgments and deeds that hold up before law firms, courts and authorities – translated by legal professional translators and, where required, certified by translators authorised in Germany.

Legal texts do not forgive approximations. A wrongly rendered term shifts liability, deadlines or jurisdiction – and often only comes to light before a court or authority. We translate contracts, pleadings and deeds with professional translators who command the legal language of both sides, and revise every version under the four-eyes principle of DIN EN ISO 17100.

Where an official body requires it, we deliver the certified version: a translator authorised in Germany confirms, with stamp, signature and certification note, the accuracy and completeness of the translation. On request we handle your documents under a confidentiality agreement.

Have a contract translated

For law firms and legal departments: contract documents transferred consistently and confidentially

Does the terminology stay consistent across an entire set of contracts?

A framework agreement, its annexes and later amendments must carry the same terms – otherwise room for interpretation arises. We set up a glossary for your matter and secure the reviewed phrasing in the translation memory, so that definitions, party designations and clauses stay identical across all documents and follow-up orders.

How are confidential contracts and NDAs protected?

Mergers-and-acquisitions documents, licence agreements or settlement texts contain information that should rarely leave the building before translation. On request we work under your or our non-disclosure agreement, limit access to the assigned team, and transfer files over secure channels rather than open email attachments.

How does the translation deal with different legal systems?

Legal terms rarely have an exact counterpart in the target language – a GmbH is not a Ltd., a Vormerkung not a simple "caveat". Our professional legal translators work with functional equivalents and, where necessary, with explanatory notes, so that the legal effect is preserved and not merely the word.

Have a court judgment translated

For proceedings and authorities: certified translations that are recognised

When does an authority require the certified translation?

Courts, registry offices, notaries and immigration authorities usually only accept foreign-language documents with a certified translation – for example court judgments, statements of claim, register extracts or powers of attorney. Tell us the intended use and the receiving authority, and we deliver the version in the required format.

Who may certify, and what does the certification note say?

In Germany, translators authorised by the regional or higher regional courts produce certified translations (the designation varies by federal state). The certification note at the end of the translation attests, with stamp and signature, to its accuracy and completeness; the translator is thereby personally liable for the rendering. This version is recognised nationwide.

Do I also need an apostille – and who issues it?

For use abroad, the destination country sometimes requires an apostille or legalisation of the original document. This is not issued by the translation agency but by the competent German authority – for court and notarial documents, the President of the Regional Court. We tell you whether an apostille is needed and in what order the certification and translation must take place.

FAQ

Legal translation – frequently asked questions

What does a legal translation cost?

From €0.95 per standard line; the binding fixed price depends on volume, language combination, certification and quality level and is usually available to you within about two hours.

Who produces certified translations for courts and authorities?

For authorities and courts, court-authorised translators produce the certified translation with a certification note and stamp – accepted for submission to authorities and courts.

How do you ensure confidentiality?

Everyone involved is bound to confidentiality, with a separate NDA on request. Transfer and storage take place in a GDPR-compliant manner.

Do definitions, references and party roles remain robust?

Yes. We carry legal definitions, cross-references and roles consistently across the entire document – supported by a legal glossary and independent revision under the four-eyes principle.

Can you obtain an apostille?

The apostille is issued by the competent authority of the document's state – for court and notarial documents, as a rule the President of the Regional Court –, not by the translation agency. We deliver the certified translation as the basis and advise on the process.
