According to which standard do you transliterate my name?
German bodies require transliteration according to the applicable ISO standard — for example ISO 9 for Cyrillic, ISO 233 for Arabic and ISO 843 for Greek script. This way the transliteration is unambiguous and traceable for any authority.
What applies if the spelling in the passport differs from the ISO standard?
Then the spelling in the passport takes precedence: German authorities as a rule adopt the passport spelling, and the authorised translator records the deviation from the ISO standard in a note. This way your name remains identical across all documents.
Are diacritical marks such as accents transliterated as well?
Yes. Accents, hooks and strokes above letters are legally binding parts of the name, not decoration; we reproduce them exactly, so that no name discrepancy arises later.

Does the passport have to be translated for the immigration office?
If the passport is not issued in German, the immigration authority generally requires a certified translation of the personal data page for residence permits and registration. We render personal data, the issuing authority and validity correctly and transliterate the name in accordance with the standard.
Under which standard are names rendered from Cyrillic or Arabic?
